Micro-Sanitation Systems
Sustainable sanitation infrastructure for communities today and tomorrow
Sustainable sanitation infrastructure for communities today and tomorrow
Our planet is drowning in human waste. Literally. And the consequences of inadequate sanitation infrastructure are dire impacting livelihoods and community well-being. To make matters worse, mega-trends such as climate change, rapid urbanization and water scarcity intensify the fallout as communities cope with more people, more waste and less resources.
BUT the “gold-standard” system, an extensive distribution of pipes connected to a centralized treatment system is impractical. Too expensive, too resource intensive (water, power, land and emissions) and too long lead times for the millions of communities who need a solution NOW.
Lack access to safely managed sanitation infrastructure. Around the world, millions of communities are dealing with inadequate infrastructure.
Discharged to the environment contaminating water and soil. Beyond the “ick” factor, pathogen-laced waste cause disease, sometimes fatal.
Sanitation is a leading source of methane emissions arising from treatment plants, septic systems and decomposition of untreated waste.
